Obverse description Blue on multicolour underprint. A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears at the right, with the three-legged triskelion arms of the Isle of Man at lower centre. The note bears the printed signature of the Lieutenant Governor beneath the promise-to-pay text.

Reverse description Printed in blue, the reverse carries a central intaglio vignette of a Viking longship under full sail, crewed by oarsmen and set against a coastal landscape with hills in the distance. Denomination numerals '50p' appear within shield cartouches at lower left and right, flanked by a Celtic interlace border running the full perimeter of the note. The title 'FIFTY NEW PENCE' is inscribed in a rectangular panel at the top centre.
