Additional information

In 1923, Poland's inflation crisis was accelerating toward collapse — by late that year, the Polish mark had become functionally worthless, with exchange rates against the dollar running into the millions. Trial strikes like this one were part of the mint's preparation for a currency overhaul that would culminate in the złoty reform of 1924, replacing the mark at a ratio of 1,800,000 to one. The absence of a nominal value on this piece almost certainly reflects uncertainty at the time of striking about what denomination structure the new system would carry.
