| 表面の説明 | The obverse is printed in black on a light paper with a pale green guilloche underprint. The heading banner reads "Notgeld für die Marktgemeinde Straß" in Gothic script, flanked left and right by large ornate denomination numerals "50 Heller" enclosed in decorative frames. A central vignette presents a pen-and-ink view of the local church tower and surrounding rooftops, beneath which a municipal coat of arms is displayed. The lower portion carries the guarantee text, the issuing date "12 Mai 1920," and two manuscript signatures above the printed titles "Vizebgmstr." and "der Bürgermeister." |

Austrian Notgeld from the immediate postwar period, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipalities scrambling to produce their own small-denomination scrip. The central government's inability to supply adequate coinage through 1919–1921 pushed hundreds of towns to issue locally printed Heller notes under informal authorization — Straß was one of thousands of Gemeinden doing exactly this.
The JPR1044b suffix indicates a variant within the Straß issue, likely a color or text difference from the base type. Jaksch/Pick Notgeld references are notoriously inconsistent in how they define variants, so minor discrepancies between catalogued descriptions and physical examples are common with this series.
