Beschrijving keerzijde The large numeral '50' dominates the central field in bold relief, with the word FRANCS inscribed below in a smaller serif typeface. Surrounding the denomination, a decorative frieze of stylized agricultural and natural produce motifs fills the field, including cacao pods, coffee beans, and other regional crops, reflecting the economic resources of the member states. A country letter identifier (visible as 'D' for Gabon on the illustrated example) appears at the top of the field above the numeral. The composition is enclosed within a raised inner border, with the whole contained by a plain rim.

Aanvullende informatie

The BEAC itself was only established in 1972, replacing the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Équatoriale et du Cameroun, and the mid-1970s coinage program represented the first systematic issue of standardized currency across the six-nation franc CFA zone under the new central bank's authority. Essai pieces like this were produced in limited quantities — typically a few hundred examples — for submission to member governments and monetary authorities before production approval.

The nickel composition adopted here replaced the earlier cupro-nickel alloys used by the predecessor institution.
