| Obverse description | The obverse depicts a juxtaposition of ancient and modern martial themes, commemorating the bicentenary of the Joanneum museum in Graz. In the left foreground, a richly detailed Renaissance-era armoured helmet and gorget are rendered in high relief, the visor and surface ornamentation finely engraved. To the right, a perspective view into the interior of the Landeszeughaus (Styrian Armoury) reveals a row of full suits of plate armour standing on pedestals, receding into the background in a dramatic vanishing-point composition. The legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH arcs along the upper rim, with the denomination 50 EURO and date 2011 inscribed in the field. |
