| Obverse description | The obverse features a portrait bust of Miguel de Cervantes, celebrated author and father of Spanish literature, rendered in right-facing profile with a quill pen depicted alongside his effigy. The inscription 'ESPAÑA' appears in the field denoting the issuing country, with 'Cervantes' identifying the subject, the mint year, and the Madrid mint mark 'M' completing the legend. The design is encircled by the twelve stars of the European Union, of which five are joined by a band, a distinctive Spanish national motif introduced on the first series of Spanish euro coinage. |
