The Sea Harrier FRS.1 entered Royal Navy service in 1980 and earned its reputation during the 1982 Falklands War, where it flew combat air patrol and strike missions from the carriers HMS Hermes and Invincible. Operating at the extreme limit of its range, it achieved an extraordinary kill ratio — 20 Argentine aircraft downed with no air-to-air losses — relying heavily on the AIM-9L Sidewinder, then newly acquired from the United States.
The Marshall Islands issued dozens of military aviation commemoratives through the mid-1990s, contracting production through foreign mints for a collector market rather than any domestic circulation need.
