The KM#133 fifty-dirham piece was issued to mark the transition from Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who ruled Ras al-Khaimah for over half a century until his death in 2010, to the broader federal commemorative tradition maintained by the UAE Central Bank. Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the obverse authority, died in May 2022 — making 2021 one of the final years any UAE commemorative was struck under his presidency.
