Cook Islands has issued novelty iron pieces under legitimate authority for decades, leveraging its currency relationship with New Zealand to produce collector-targeted issues that never circulate. The Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 as a temporary structure for the Paris World's Fair — Gustave Eiffel's own company retained the rights to it, and demolition was only avoided because its iron lattice proved useful as a radio transmission tower.
Iron as a coin composition is almost unheard of outside wartime emergency issues, most notably German Kriegsgeld of WWI and WWII.
