Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, depicting the Queen in mature portrait wearing the royal diadem, a necklace, and drop earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA arcs along the upper periphery, with the sovereign's title rendered in Latin. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and regalia, characteristic of de Pédery-Hunt's numismatic style.

Additional information

One of sixteen coins in the Royal Canadian Mint's 2000 Sports series, this issue commemorated the millennium by documenting recreational and competitive activities embedded in everyday Canadian life. Lawn bowling, the sport depicted, had been organized in Canada since the 1870s, with the Ontario Lawn Bowls Association among the oldest sporting bodies in the country. The series was struck for collectors only and saw no circulation, which explains the near-universal gem condition in which these pieces survive.
