Reverse description The Commonwealth of Australia coat of arms occupies the central field, flanked by the two supporters: a red kangaroo to the left and an emu to the right, both rendered in fine sculptural relief by Stuart Devlin. Above the shield, the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star surmounts a wreath of wattle branches. The quartered shield displays the badges of the six Australian states. The denomination numeral 50 appears in large characters at the base of the design, partially overlapping the lower wreath, with the engraver's initials SD incorporated discreetly into the design.
