| Opmerkingen |
Gandesa sits in Terra Alta, the remote Catalan comarca that would become the epicenter of the Battle of the Ebro in 1938 — the longest and bloodiest engagement of the Civil War. This note predates that catastrophe by roughly a year, issued when the Republican municipal council still functioned and the chronic shortage of small coinage forced hundreds of Catalan ajuntaments to print their own emergency scrip.
Josep Bassa's press in nearby Mora d'Ebre printed for several Terra Alta municipalities during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance between issues from the area. Turró catalogs this as #1082.
