Carl Naumann's Druckerei in Frankfurt am Main handled a considerable volume of emergency currency for Hessian towns during this period, often recycling typographic layouts across multiple issuers with only the authorizing city name changed.
Stadt Bad Homburg vor der Höhe — the spa town north of Frankfurt — had genuine civic standing and the tax base to back short-term local scrip, which gave its notgeld slightly more credibility than issues from smaller rural communes.
