正面描述 Central field bears a multi-line Arabic-script inscription naming Mozaffar al-Din Shah Qajar with his royal titles, arranged in concentric curved lines filling the coin's face. The legend reads the full royal titulature including 'Sultan al-Azam' and 'Khaqan al-Afkham', with the mint name Tehran (طهران) appearing at the top of the field. The denomination 'ده تومان' (ten tomans) is inscribed at the base of the central legend. The inscription is framed by a ring of alternating florets and dots forming an ornamental border along the rim. The engraving reflects the refined Qajar court calligraphic tradition in a bold Naskh style.

背面描述 The reverse displays the imperial Qajar arms: a lion passant to the right, holding an upright sword in its right forepaw, set against a radiant rising sun behind its back. The lion and sun device is mounted on a decorative platform and is surrounded by a wreath composed of olive and oak branches tied at the base with a floral ornament. The entire composition is rendered in high relief with fine detail, consistent with the milled coinage of the Tehran mint in the late Qajar period. A beaded border encircles the design along the rim.

附加信息

A mule in the strictest sense: this piece combines dies from different denominations or issues that were never intended to pair. Mozaffar al-Din Shah's reign saw chronic administrative disorder at the Tehran and Tabriz mints, and mismatched die usage — whether accidental or the result of a moneyer cutting corners — was not exceptional enough to trigger automatic rejection. Most mules from this period entered circulation without remark.

Mozaffar al-Din contracted significant foreign loans from Russia in 1900 and 1902 to fund European travel, mortgaging customs revenues in the process. The financial strain on the mint during this window was real.
