Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King George VI facing left, modelled in high relief with finely detailed hair, occupying the central field. The portrait, engraved by Thomas Humphrey Paget, presents the king in civilian dress with a truncated neck. The circular legend GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX runs along the periphery in raised Roman lettering, separated from the denticulated border. The engraver's initials HP appear discreetly at the truncation of the bust.
