| Reverse description | The reverse likewise bears an entirely calligraphic design executed in bold Nasta'liq script, arranged in three principal horizontal registers separated by raised linear rules. The upper register carries the pious royal epithet 'banda-yi shāh-i vilāyat' (servant of the king of sainthood, a devotional title of Shah Abbas II), the central field bears the ruler's name 'Abbas Thani' (Abbas II), and the lower register records the mint name Shushtar together with the regnal year 1068 AH in abjad-style Eastern Arabic numerals. The broad, lively strokes and characteristic interlocking letterforms reflect the accomplished die-cutting tradition of the Safavid provincial mints. |
