Obverse description Central field features the heraldic shield of the English East India Company, quartered with a cross and bearing a central escutcheon, surmounted by a lion rampant to left holding a crown in its forepaws. The bold circular legend reads ENGLISH EAST INDIA COMPANY· in Latin characters, arranged around the periphery of the coin. The design is executed in a robust relief typical of early nineteenth-century Indian Presidency coinage.

Reverse description The reverse is divided horizontally by a ruled line, with the field occupied by two registers of Persian script denoting the denomination of five rupees and the name of the East India Company (Kampani Bahadur). The script is rendered in a bold Naskh style, interspersed with decorative rosette and lozenge ornaments distributed throughout the field. A beaded border runs around the full circumference of the reverse.
