The Temple of Hathor at Dendera was one of the best-preserved cult temples in Egypt, constructed largely under the Ptolemaic rulers and completed during Roman imperial administration — Nero and Augustus both appear in relief on its walls performing ritual offerings to Egyptian deities. Egypt began issuing commemorative silver in earnest during the 1990s partly to generate hard currency through collector markets abroad, and this series targeting ancient monuments was squarely aimed at European and American buyers rather than domestic circulation.
