| Obverse description | The central field bears the denomination 'Five Pounds' in bold Arabic calligraphy, flanked on either side by the dual dates AH 1401 (right) and AD 1981 (left) in Eastern Arabic numerals. The country name 'Arab Republic of Egypt' is inscribed in a flowing Arabic legend curving across the upper portion of the field. An ornate arabesque floral cartouche ornament appears at the base of the design. The entire design is framed by a decorative inner border of dashes and a reeded outer rim. |
