Obverse description The obverse displays the country name and denomination in elegant Arabic calligraphic script arranged across the upper and central fields. The legend reads 'Arab Republic of Egypt' in a sweeping arc along the upper periphery, with the denomination 'Five Pounds' rendered in large, stylized thuluth calligraphy at center. The dual dating appears in Arabic-Indic numerals at lower left (1980) and Eastern Arabic numerals at lower right (1400 AH), flanking a decorative arabesque ornament at the base. The entire design is framed by a continuous inner border of alternating dashes and dots following the coin's circumference.
