Obverse description Central device depicts a stylized Egyptian vulture with wings fully spread, facing downward in heraldic posture, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. Above the vulture, the Arabic legend identifying the Arab Republic of Egypt appears in two lines, surmounted by a lotus flower ornament at the apex. The Latin abbreviation 'A·R·E' is inscribed beneath the Arabic legend. The denomination '5 LE' appears to the left in both Western and Arabic-Eastern numerals, with the dual dating in both Hijri (1415) and Gregorian (1994) calendars flanking the central motif on either side. The mint mark 'ECC' is visible in the lower exergue, and the entire design is framed by a finely reeded inner border.
