Obverse description Central field features the stylized Eagle of Saladin with outstretched wings, rendered in the ancient Egyptian artistic tradition, with the abbreviation 'A·R·E' inscribed above the eagle. The Arabic legend 'جمهورية مصر العربية' (Arab Republic of Egypt) appears in two lines in the upper field, surmounted by a lotus flower motif. The denomination '5' and 'LE' appear to the left, with the Arabic numeral '٥' and Arabic currency abbreviation to the right. Dual dates in both the Hijri and Gregorian calendars are distributed along the lower border — '1414' and '1993' in Western numerals to the lower left, and '١٤١٤' and '١٩٩٣' in Eastern Arabic numerals to the lower right. The mint mark 'E' and quality mark 'CC' appear in the lower exergue, and the entire design is framed by a decorative reeded border.
