Obverse description The denomination legend in Arabic script ('خمسة جنيهات', meaning 'Five Pounds') is prominently displayed in the central field in large calligraphic lettering. Above, the name of the Arab Republic of Egypt ('جمهورية مصر العربية') arcs along the upper periphery in Arabic script. The Hijri year 1402 appears to the right and the Gregorian year 1981 to the left of the denomination, flanking it in the lower field. A decorative arabesque ornament is positioned at the base of the design. The entire design is enclosed within a milled inner border.

Reverse description The central field depicts an industrial complex comprising a large factory building with storage tanks and a prominent oil derrick to the left, alongside a smokestack emitting smoke toward a cogwheel symbol to the right, representing the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. A circular valve or globe with a dripping liquid is shown at the base of the complex, symbolizing mineral and petroleum resources. The dates '١٩٥٦' (1956) and '١٩٨١' (1981) flank the word 'يونيو' (June) in the upper field, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the ministry's founding. A curved Arabic commemorative legend arcs along the lower periphery within the milled inner border. The design is enclosed by a segmented milled border.
