Issued as part of Egypt's Olympic series ahead of the Barcelona Games, this piece commemorates fencing at a moment when Egyptian fencers carried genuine international weight — Egyptians had won Olympic fencing medals as far back as 1928, and the national team remained competitive through the latter half of the twentieth century. The .900 silver composition and relatively modest mintage kept most examples out of circulation entirely, with the bulk absorbed by collectors at issue.
