Issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Egyptian parliament, which traces its origins to the Legislative Assembly established under British occupation in 1913. That body had no real legislative power — it could only advise the khedive's government — making the anniversary being celebrated here something of a polite fiction about Egyptian self-governance.

The .720 silver fineness was a deliberate choice for Egyptian commemoratives of this period, matching the composition used across several 1980s issues rather than the finer silver common to earlier Egyptian commemoratives.
