Egypt's wildlife commemorative program of the early 1990s drew from CITES-listed species under mounting pressure from habitat loss in the Sinai and Eastern Desert. The Dorcas gazelle, the likely subject here, had already disappeared from much of its former Egyptian range by the time this coin was struck.
