Additional information

Cairo University celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1983 — founded in 1908 as the Egyptian University, it was the first modern secular institution of higher education in Egypt and a deliberate political project to build an indigenous intellectual class outside the Ottoman-controlled Al-Azhar system. The commemorative issue marks that milestone.

.720 fineness places this squarely in Egypt's mid-period silver commemorative program, which consistently used lower-grade silver than earlier royal-era issues.
