The "Bagong Lipunan" — New Society — series was Marcos's most explicit use of currency as political messaging, launched after his declaration of martial law in 1972. This 5 Piso note under Pick 160 spans a longer run than most in the series, cycling through four signature combinations as BSP governors Licaros, Laya, and Fernandez each served under the same martial law administration. The Laya-signed notes appear in both black and red serial number variants, a production distinction that likely reflects separate print runs rather than any policy change.
G&D's Leipzig plant printed the series throughout — notable given that the facility was located in East Germany for much of this period.
