Eglosheim, a small locality near Ludwigsburg in Württemberg, housed a prisoner-of-war camp during the First World War. Like hundreds of similar facilities across Germany, it issued its own internal camp currency to prevent prisoners from accumulating Reichsmarks that might fund escape attempts or be smuggled out — the monetary quarantine logic was consistent across the system, mandated from the War Ministry level downward.
Campbell 2921 is among the lower denominations in the Eglosheim series. Camp scrip of this period survives almost entirely because it was pocketed as a souvenir by released or repatriated prisoners in 1918 — utility currency that outlasted the wire.
