| Additional information |
Waggonfabrik Busch was one of Saxony's principal railway wagon manufacturers, and like dozens of German industrial firms during the notgeld period of 1917–1921, it issued its own internal coinage to compensate for the acute shortage of small-denomination Reichsmünzen withdrawn from circulation during the war. These factory tokens circulated exclusively among workers as wage supplements redeemable at the company canteen or company store — a closed monetary loop that kept the firm's payroll functioning when the Reichsbank could not supply enough coin.
The zinc composition reflects wartime material constraints; copper and nickel had been requisitioned for munitions production well before 1917.
