Pattern coinage from the Casa de Moneda rarely escapes institutional archives, and this brass 1972 piece is no exception — struck as part of a broader mid-century effort by the Mexican mint to evaluate alternative compositions for high-denomination circulation coinage. Brass was being tested against rising silver prices that had already forced Mexico to abandon silver in its peso series years earlier.
Guerrero patterns from this period exist in multiple metals, making cross-reference against Pollock essential before attribution. PL#161 is brass specifically.
