Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle with spread wings, perched in profile on a nopal cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak. The cactus and rock are set upon a lake, and the entire device is encircled at the base by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery, with a beaded border running along the rim.
