| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central field bears the Imperial Iranian coat of arms in the Qajar-Pahlavi tradition, featuring the Lion and Sun motif: a lion passant guardant holding a sword, with a radiant sun rising behind its back. The Pahlavi (Kiani) crown appears above the shield, and the composition is flanked by oak and olive branches. The denomination 'Panj Pahlavi' (Five Pahlavi) and the Persian calendar date 1305 appear as the legend surrounding the central device. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

The 5 Pahlavi of 1926 was struck in the first year of Reza Shah's reign, following his formal coronation in April of that year after deposing Ahmad Shah Qajar. The new dynasty needed hard currency that projected legitimacy, and these large gold multiples were as much political instruments as monetary ones — issued to signal fiscal seriousness to foreign creditors and neighboring powers still skeptical of the new order.
Fr#88 is the foundational Frenchman reference for this type, and surviving specimens in high grades are frequently ex-Iranian banking reserves rather than general circulation.
