Obverse description Central field occupied by the imperial monogram of Justin II, rendered in Greek letters. The monogram, composed of the letters forming the name IOUSTINOS, is presented in a bold, somewhat crude hammered style typical of small Byzantine fractional bronze coinage. No legend surrounds the monogram; the entire design is confined within the plain, irregularly rounded flan.
