The "Corrective Revolution" designation refers to Anwar Sadat's bloodless internal coup of May 1971, in which he outmaneuvered and arrested the Nasserist left wing of the Arab Socialist Union — including Ali Sabri, then considered the most powerful man in Egypt after Sadat himself. The move decisively ended Nasser's political model and realigned Egypt away from Soviet patronage.
