Helmstedt was one of several German prisoner-of-war camps operating during the First World War that issued internal camp currency to manage transactions among confined officers — specifically officers, as the Offizier-Gefangenen-Lager designation indicates. These scrip issues were administratively separate from the broader German military Lagergeld system and were not redeemable outside the camp's internal economy.

Campbell 3107 is among the scarcer Helmstedt denominations. Pink paper was a deliberate denomination differentiator, not incidental to the stock used.
