The Inspektion der Kriegsgefangenenlager im Bereich des III. Armeekorps administered prisoner-of-war camps across the Brandenburg region, and this 5 Mark note was part of a captive currency system designed to keep foreign prisoners from accumulating Reichsmarks that could aid escape attempts. Camp scrip could be rendered worthless overnight simply by changing the series — a deliberate control mechanism, not an administrative convenience.

Ambrosius & Co. in Kirchhain, Niederlausitz handled a substantial volume of notgeld and camp currency printing during the war years. Their output for various PoW administrations is well-documented, though individual camp issues often survive in small numbers — prisoner populations moved, camps closed, and scrip was rarely redeemed in full.
