Lebanon's Banque du Liban has issued a long-running zodiac series in .500 silver, and the Capricorn entry is among the later strikes in that run. The half-fine silver composition was a deliberate cost-control decision — keeping the face value nominally meaningful while producing a collectible that the Lebanese pound's chronic weakness would otherwise make economically absurd to mint in finer silver.
Lebanon's currency has been under sustained pressure since well before 2013, with the pound pegged artificially to the dollar at a rate the central bank defended through dollar borrowing rather than monetary discipline.
