| 表面の説明 | Unadorned right-facing effigy of King Oscar II, depicted with curly hair and a full beard, in high relief against a flat field. The engraver's initials LA appear on the truncation of the bust. The peripheral legend OSCAR II SVERIGES OCH NORGES KONUNG curves around the upper rim within a beaded border, identifying the king as ruler of Sweden and Norway. The four-digit date is shown in the lower exergue, flanked on each side by a small five-pointed star. |

Oscar II was deeply resistant to the Scandinavian Monetary Union when Denmark, Sweden, and Norway formalized it in 1873, yet it was ultimately Swedish fiscal pressure — not diplomatic enthusiasm — that drove adoption. This 5 Kronor gold piece exists precisely because the Union standard demanded a unified coin metric, forcing Sweden to retire its riksdaler-based coinage entirely.
The type had a notoriously short effective life in active commerce. Gold hoarding accelerated sharply after 1914, and most surviving examples saw minimal hand-to-hand circulation.
