| 正面描述 | At the upper portion of the obverse, the small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine (trident) is flanked to the right by the semicircular legend УКРАЇНА. The central field features a vertical matte stripe symbolizing the Dnipro River, against which stylized architectural structures of Khortytsia Island are depicted. To the right appears the civic coat of arms of Zaporizhzhia, while to the left is a cartographic plan of Oleksandr's Fortress, which historically occupied the site of the modern city; the two elements are joined by a bridge motif evoking the river's two banks. Below the bridge, the denomination and date are inscribed in three lines as 5 / ГРИВЕНЬ / 2020, and the mint mark of the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works appears at lower left against a smooth field. |

Issued as part of Ukraine's long-running "Regions of Ukraine" commemorative series, this coin marks Zaporizhia Oblast — a region whose name derives directly from the Zaporozhian Sich, the fortified host of Cossack warriors who established their headquarters beyond the Dnieper rapids. The Sich was destroyed by Catherine the Great's forces in 1775, an act of deliberate erasure that the Soviet period did little to rehabilitate and independent Ukraine has worked systematically to reverse through cultural commemoration of exactly this kind.
The "German silver" designation reflects a nickel-copper-zinc alloy with no actual silver content — a naming convention inherited from 19th-century German metalworking trade terminology.
