Additional information

Issued in 2014, this coin commemorates the liberation of Nikopol from German occupation on February 8, 1944 — part of the broader Dnieper–Carpathian Offensive, one of the largest Soviet operations of the Eastern Front's final phase. The city's strategic importance derived almost entirely from its manganese deposits, which Germany had been extracting to sustain steel production for the war effort. Retaking Nikopol cut that supply line permanently.
