| Obverse description | The Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine appears at the top of the field, with the legend УКРАЇНА / 5 ГРИВЕНЬ / 2014 inscribed below it. At center, four lines of verse by the Ukrainian poet Pavlo Tychyna are rendered in Cyrillic: Я ЄСТЬ НАРОД, / ЯКОГО ПРАВДИ СИЛА / НІКИМ ЗВОЙОВАНА ЩЕ НЕ БУЛА. / ЯКА БІДА МЕНЕ, / ЯКА ЧУМА КОСИЛА! - / А СИЛА ЗНОВУ РОЗЦВІЛА… / ПАВЛО ТИЧИНА, translating as 'I am the people whose power of truth has not been conquered by anyone; despite all plagues, the power blossomed again.' To the right of the verse, a polychrome pad-printed bouquet of wild cornflowers, ears of wheat, and poppies lends decorative color to the design. The logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint appears on the obverse field. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a stylized allegorical composition of two female figures at right, set against a map of Ukraine in the field, symbolizing sorrow and joy in reference to the wartime experience. To the left, two commemorative dates are inscribed: 22 ЧЕРВНЯ 1941 (22 June 1941, the date of the Nazi invasion) and 28 ЖОВТНЯ 1944 (28 October 1944, the date of Ukraine's complete liberation). Below the central composition, a four-line legend reads ВИЗВОЛЕННЯ / УКРАЇНИ / ВІД ФАШИСТСЬКИХ / ЗАГАРБНИКІВ, meaning 'Liberation of Ukraine from Fascist Invaders.' The overall design commemorates the 70th anniversary of Ukraine's liberation from Nazi occupation during World War II. |
