The left half displays a mirror-polished, dark field depicting a stylised lion with a detailed mane shown in three-quarter profile, accompanied by the Leo astrological symbol in the upper left and a dot-connected star chart of the Leo constellation in the lower left, with four-pointed stars scattered throughout. Issued under the National Bank of Ukraine's ongoing wildlife conservation series, this piece commemorates the European lynx (*Lynx lynx*), which had been extirpated from most of Ukraine by the mid-twentieth century through hunting pressure and habitat loss. Populations in the Carpathian region have partially recovered, though the animal remains on Ukraine's Red List of threatened species.
