The Kyiv funicular, opened in 1905, was one of the first in the Russian Empire and remains one of the shortest public funiculars still in regular operation — its two cars covering a vertical rise of roughly 75 meters between Poshtova Square and Mykhailivska Square. The commemorative issue marks its 110th anniversary. Ukraine's 5 hryvnia bimetallic circulation commemoratives from this period were struck in quantity but see almost no pocket wear; most go straight from bank packaging into collections.
