Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts a full-length figure of a bokorash — a traditional Carpathian timber raftsman — rendered in a bold, graphic engraved style, shown in a dynamic pose leaning upon a long wooden pole used to steer log rafts. Behind the central figure, a panoramic scene of a river raft with logs floating on water is visible in the background field. The composition is framed on both sides by symmetrically arranged traditional Hutsul geometric folk ornaments and floral rosette motifs. The Cyrillic inscription «БОКОРАШ» is prominently displayed in the upper portion of the field in a stylized folk lettering.

Aanvullende informatie

The "Bokorash" — a traditional Carpathian raftsman who floated timber down the mountain rivers of western Ukraine — was celebrated in this 2009 commemorative as part of the National Bank's ongoing series documenting vanishing Ukrainian folk occupations. The practice had largely died out by the Soviet period, when industrial logging methods replaced the seasonal raft crews that once worked the Cheremosh and Tisa rivers.
