Reverse description The reverse presents a left-facing profile bust of a young Ukrainian woman adorned with a traditional floral wreath (vinok), set within an octagonal frame at the center of the field. The central medallion is encircled by a stylized decorative wreath of intertwined branches with elongated leaves and berries rendered in a folk art manner. Above the central device, the numeral '25' and the word 'РОКІВ' (years) are inscribed in the upper field. Along the lower rim, the Cyrillic legend 'НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ' (of Independence) completes the commemorative inscription.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian independence, this coin arrived during an acutely difficult political moment — two years after the Euromaidan revolution, the annexation of Crimea, and the outbreak of armed conflict in Donbas. The National Bank of Ukraine had been producing anniversary coinage throughout the post-Soviet decades, but the 2016 issue carried weight the earlier commemoratives did not.

The nickel brass alloy — sometimes cataloged under the German silver designation due to compositional overlap — was standard for Ukrainian circulation commemoratives of this period, keeping production costs manageable during a severe hryvnia devaluation that had begun in 2014.
