Obverse description The arms of the Canton of Bern — a bear passant on a diagonally striped shield — displayed centrally in high relief, flanked by crossed rifles and framed by oak and laurel branches. A radiant star surmounted by the Swiss federal cross appears above the shield. The denomination '5 Fr.' appears in the lower field, with the engraver's signature 'C.BÜHLER INV' at the base. The circular legend around the periphery reads 'EIDGENÖSSISCHES SCHÜTZENFEST IN BERN · 1885'.
