| 裏面の説明 | A leaping deer rendered in bold relief dominates the centre of the field, depicted mid-stride in a dynamic stylised design. Three diagonal parallel lines cross the field from lower left to upper right, providing a graphic background against which the animal stands out in high contrast. The numeral '5' appears in large format to the upper right of the design. The denomination legend 'FLEURIJN' is inscribed in the lower portion of the field, partially underlying the leaping deer motif. |

Ede's fleurijn was one of dozens of locally issued municipal currencies that appeared across the Netherlands in the mid-to-late 1990s, a quiet experiment in community commerce encouraged partly by the looming arrival of the euro and a broader European interest in complementary currency systems. These pieces circulated within designated local business networks, redeemable only in the issuing municipality, and were typically sold to residents at face value as a way of keeping spending local. Most saw limited actual circulation — bought as novelties, pocketed as souvenirs — which explains why surviving examples almost universally show minimal wear.
