| Obverse description | The obverse features a finely engraved composition inspired by an ancient Roman mosaic motif, depicting a large ornamental bowl or crater resting on an Ionic capital base, with four doves perched upon and around it. The design references the celebrated ancient Roman mosaic of doves drinking from a vessel, associated with Hadrian's Villa. A decorative geometric frieze in a black-and-white diamond pattern occupies the lower register of the field. The legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA arcs along the left and upper periphery, while the engraver's name CASSOL appears in the lower field beneath the capital. |
