His characteristically expressive face — lean features and penetrating gaze — is faithfully captured in the manner associated with his celebrated screen image. The outer bronzital ring carries the legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA along the left and right periphery respectively, divided by the portrait. The engraver's signature U.
